Coolsculpting FAQ
How does coolscupling work?
In a CoolSculpting® session, the device is attached to the area to be targeted where it applies light suction to the skin and underlying tissue. Once activated, it delivers controlled cooling into the tissue below. But this is the unique aspect of CoolSculpting® — the temperature involved only freezes fat cells, not surrounding non-fat cells. Once the fat cells are crystallized they then gradually die. Your body, as with any non-essential by-product, then eliminates the dead fat cells naturally. With those fat cells gone, the remaining fat cells condense into a thinner fat layer.
What happens to the frozen fat cells?
Cryolipolysis is the secret behind CoolSculpting®. Fat cells freeze at a higher temperature than muscle tissue, blood vessels, skin, and other tissue. Once the fat cells are frozen, they die and the body gets about the business of removing them from the system, as it does with any waste products. The lymphatic system is responsible for this cleanup job, and it breaks down and flushes these dead cells from the body over the course of the next few weeks and months.
How long does the treatment take?
A CoolSculpting® session takes from one to three hours. The procedure is pain-free and patients can read a book or even browse the web on their laptops while receiving the treatment. There is no recovery time; patients can return to normal activities immediately following their session.
Is coolsculpting painful?
You’ll feel some intense cooling, but you won’t feel pain during your session. At the onset, you’ll feel a pulling sensation as the suction draws your tissues up to the cooling panels. Once the cooling is delivered, at first you’ll feel an intense cooling sensation for a few minutes. Most people don’t describe this as painful, just very cold. Then the area becomes numb, and the sensation passes. From there, you’ll feel little. You can read a book, answer emails, watch videos on your laptop, or take a nap during the procedure.
Who is a good candidate?
CoolSculpting® is not a weight-loss procedure; it is a body-contouring procedure. Patients generally should be at or near their ideal body weight before having CoolSculpting® done. This will then remove the stubborn pockets of fat and further slim your contour.
How much fat do you loose?
When you have your first CoolSculpting® treatment on an area, the process of freezing the fat cells to the point of cell death (clinically known as cryolipolysis) causes from 20-24 percent of the fat cells in the area to die and be flushed from the body. Subsequent treatments on the same area deliver lower amounts of fat reduction.
When do you see results?
You may start to see changes as quickly as three weeks after your session. Your most dramatic results to show after about two months. Your body will continue to flush out fat cells for up to 4-6 months after treatment. This fat is gone for good.
Is this treatment good for men and women?
Yes! This treatment benefits both men and women.
