Microneedling with PRF

Microneedling is a skin rejuvenating treatment that uses a small hand-held device with tiny needles that create microchannels or tiny holes in the skin’s surface. These microchannels immediately trigger the healing process, producing collagen and elastin in the deeper layers of the skin. Collagen production is crucial to our skin’s integrity. More collagen means a more youthful appearance. Microneedling improves the texture and firmness of the skin, and it reduces large pores, stretch marks, and treats acne scarring.

Platelet-Rich Fibrin, also known as PRF is an FDA-approved comprehensive therapy used to enhancing the natural healing process. In PRF, the patient’s own blood is dran, spun down in a centrifuge and the plasma isolated to use during the microneedling treatment. The plasma or “liquid gold” contains growth factors that promotes a fast recovery and better results.

Microneedling with PRF FAQ

Prior to the treatment a topical numbing cream is applied. After cleansing the face, the Microneedling device is moved across the skin creating tiny punctures. The depth of the needle can be adjusted depending on the condition of the skin and the desired results.
Most patients do not find the treatment painful; it has more of a sandpaper-like sensation rather than the feel of needles. Topical numbing cream is applied 15 – 30 minutes prior to the procedure to help make the treatment more comfortable.
A series of treatments two to four treatments spaced one month apart is recommended. Depending on your skin type and desired results, additional treatments may be needed. We recommend a skin health consultation with one of our experienced medical aestheticians to determine the best treatment plan for you.
There is minimal downtime with a Microneedling treatment. It may feel like a light sunburn, with some redness and light peeling for around 3 days. For more aggressive treatments, mild redness and peeling may be experienced for 5 – 7 days. Keeping the skin hydrated will help with the healing time. We recommend avoiding heat, exercise, and sweating on the day of treatment. Sunscreen or makeup and be resumed the next day with a clean application.
Microneedling has been found to naturally improve acne scars. The treatment process can break up scar tissue, cause thickening of the skin, and create new collagen and elastin. This results in a smoother appearance of the skin’s surface. The number of treatments for acne depend on the condition of your skin, your collagen response and your desired results. On averages we recommend a series of three to six treatments spaced four weeks apart to see improvement of acne scarring. Additional treatments can be determined with your aesthetician. Microneedling is not recommended for patients with active acne.
As your skin reacts to the punctures, you will have an immediate glow, but Microneedling results build with time. This is because your body increases the production of collagen and elastin for weeks. Visible changes with the skin develop over the course of several days and weeks. Your results can continue to improve for up to six months.
Combining PRF with Microneedling shortens the healing time and increases the results by infusing a concentration of your own growth factors back into your skin.
Yes! This treatment benefits both men and women.
PRF is basically the PRP 2.0. The way the blood is processed in PRF vs PRP, more healing factors are generated, making the treatment more effective. The “liquid gold” is richer. PRF is also completely natural whereas PRP includes some additives or anti-coagulants. The absence of these extra additives in the PRF allows the PRF to steadily release the growth factors into the skin over a longer period of time, enhancing the results compared to regular PRP.
The Vampire facial is Microneedling with PRP. Although similar to a vampire facial, microneedling with PRF is a richer treatment with longer release of growth factors into the skin leading to better results.
